With a week in the books, we started to get a feel for TFX. With Robyn dominating everyone in week one (taking both the win bonus and the fan vote bonus), Week 2 would determine if she was onto something or if it was just a fluke. Brian tied with Robyn for the win bonus, but that turned out to be a fluke. He had two victories (compared to five last week), but those two victories came against himself.
I on the other hand bounced back from my six losses last week (including three to Robyn) by defeating the TFX Princess in the first two games of the week before dropping the third. Robyn then had the next two games, splitting with Cumbee and Brian. After her first five match ups, she was just 2-3, and it seemed like she was back down to Earth.
After Cumbee played with himself for the second-consecutive week, Robyn went back to her Parker-beating ways as her Eagles dropped the Ravens thanks to (in my unbiased opinion) replacement official assistance.
I beat Brian before he lost two himself in consecutive games. My Rams pulled one out against the Washington Ref-skins, and I ended the week with losses to the Steelers and Chargers.
Robyn needed a Sunday night 49ers win over Cumbee’s Lions to guarantee at least another tie for the win bonus. She got it and Brashaw didn’t let down in losing to Cumbee Monday night.
The Win Bonus
Robyn scored another top-ranked tie this week as Cumbee also got four bonus points. That means I’m the only one without a win bonus.
The Fan Bonus
Every other week fans are asked to decide a winner to a random (No Coast) Biased contest. The winner of that contest gets an additional four bonus points. So even though a player may have a rough week, the fans can keep them in the hunt by appreciating their savvy. This week’s Fan Bonus Contest requires the players to come up with a fantasy team name with you deciding the winner.
- Cumbee: Wild Wild West: My team is named after the now-classic song by Will Smith and Dru Hill (not the movie!). Too bad I didn’t get the actual Cowboys to tie this one all together, but I have the Redskins and Chiefs. The Bills were named for Buffalo Bill. The Seahawks logo was inspired by Native American culture of the Pacific Northwest. The Texans are cowboys, right? Uhh…the United States steel industry really kicked off at the tail end of the Wild West era. Umm…mountain lions were important to Native American culture. And…umm…Dru Hill is a Falcons fan. Okay, I don’t know if that last one is true. [editor's note: Dru Hill is from Baltimore. Also, Dru Hill is a group, not an individual. And how do you forget Kool Moe Dee and Stevie Wonder as a part of that song? If I were to rename this team, it would be "Stevie Wonders Why Kool Moe Dee Put His Big Willie in Dru's Hills"]
- Brashaw: Romo is Manning the bar at Leif Erickson’s Lucky Brown Tea Party on Bourbon St.: I tried to include every team I had somewhere in my team name. Succeeded only in confusion . . . sort of like my draft. Or Brown Tea Party for short. Brown Tea is beer, by the way . . . good dark lager, like Lucky Bucket . . . I’m rambling again.
- Robyn: Where in the World are the San Diego Chargers?: Robyn enjoys Carmen San Diego and has the Chargers. Also, she is currently out of the country, and we are wondering where in the world she is.
- Parker: Start Spreadin’ the News; I’m Leavin’ L.A.: First, I love Frank Sinatra. When I coached football and to drive players around, I would always introduce them to Frankie Blue Eyes. Also, I have both “New York” teams so using the opening lyrics from “New York, New York” seemed appropriate. But I also have both former Los Angeles teams: the Rams and the Raiders. So it all fits perfectly. And for short you can call them the Newsies!
As an added tribute to the replacement officials’ way of managing to inadvertently put teams in a hole, the loser of the poll this week will have four points subtracted from their total.
With the win results and just the win bonus this week, a total of 20 points were at stake. Here are your leaders.
