The San Francisco Giants Are Somehow Flying Under The Radar, Again..

The San Francisco Giants have won the World Series three times already in this decade. One would think that a three-time champion would be the biggest thing going in Major League Baseball. But much like the past three times the Giants have won it all, they are somehow flying somewhat under the radar.

This year all of the attention in the world of baseball has been on the Chicago Cubs, the lovable losers who have had an amazing start under Joe Maddon. The Cubs seem to always be on television and the lead story on all of the highlight shows. Not to take anything away from the Cubbies, who have been awesome, but the Giants have done this thing three times already this decade while the Cubs haven’t won it all since 1908.

Chicago is 47-22 as of this writing which is a .681 clip. That is playing some great baseball. But the Giants are 45-27 themselves, leading the National League West over the Los Angeles Dodgers by 5.5 games. They have won nine of the last ten games and are fast approaching the Cubs and Washington Nationals for the battle for the number one seed in the postseason.

While the Cubs boast of perhaps the best starting rotation in the big leagues with Jake Arrieta, Jon Lester and John Lackey leading the way, the Nats have perhaps the best hitter in Bryce Harper, but the Giants can still match up with anyone.

Madison Bumgarner and Johnny Cueto are as good of a top of the rotation as there is in baseball. Cueto just came off helping the Kansas City Royals win last year’s World Series and looks like he is back for more. Cueto is 11-1 now after beating the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday 15-4. Jeff Samardzija and Jake Peavy have also been pitching very well in June. Both got wins over the weekend over the Tampa Bay Rays. Peavy shut them out on Sunday 6-0.

Buster Posey quietly goes about his business, just being one of the game’s best players in baseball. While guys like Harper, Mike Trout, Miguel Cabrera, Big Papi, and others get all of the headlines, Posey just wins rings. He is hitting .278 with eight homers and 33 RBIs which is pretty good for a catcher who has to do 250 squats each game, nothing to see here folks. Brandon Belt and Hunter Pence are doing work too. Belt has 10 homers and 35 RBI while Pence is putting in a very respectable seven hr’s and 36 RBIs.

All of those guys have a knack for seeming to get these hits at the right time as well. They know when the Giants need a big hit and they always seem to deliver.

If you sleep on these Giants again this season, shame on you. This team is like the San Antonio Spurs of baseball. Never count them out, especially in even numbered years. The Giants have won the World Series in 2010, 2012 and 2014. Are you seeing a pattern here?

You can keep paying attention to the Cubs, Nationals, New York Mets, and Dodgers if you want to, but if you bet against the Giants to win the World Series and they do it again….
