The Seattle Seahawks have named rookie Russell Wilson the Seahawks’ starting quarterback. Wilson has had a strong preseason and has honestly outplayed Matt Flynn who came over as a free agent. Coach Pete Carroll made that announcement in a conference call with Seattle reporters on Sunday evening. Here is the quote from Pete Carroll:

“He’s earned this job,” Carroll said. “It was a legitimate competition as we said from the beginning and with the opportunity he’s taken advantage of, he deserves to start.”

Question is, do you feel bad for Matt Flynn? I will always say don’t “feel bad” for a guy who got a $6 million signing bonus but I am sure he didn’t think he would be losing his starting spot this quickly. With a cap hit of “just” $4 million, the Seahawks can keep Flynn as a nice backup this year and reevaluate his status at the end of the season. Don’t be surprised if he gets cut after the season though.
