[Quick Hits] USA Women’s Gymnastics Team Takes Gold

I bet gold tastes good!

The team that many thought could be the USA’s best ever has done it. Today they captured the gold and officially lived up to all the hype. Their score of 183.596 was a five points better than Russia’s, and set off a real debate over whether this is the best U.S. team of all time. The 1996 team that won gold in Atlanta may be be known as the “Magnificent Seven” so when asked about a nickname for this group: McKayla Maroney, the reigning vault champion and heavy favorite for individual gold said: “I like Fierce Five,” Maroney said. “Because we are definitely the fiercest team out there.”

Long live the “Fierce Five”
