Photo: Ohio State’s “Rivalry” uniforms for Michigan Game Saturday

After much speculation, Ohio State has released images of their “rivalry” uniforms that they will wear this Saturday when the Buckeyes square off against the arch-rival Michigan. Here is the official statement from Ohio State:

Ohio State will be outfitted for the game in special Nike uniforms. This year’s model hints back to the uniform style worn by the Buckeyes starting in the 1967 season but that are typically referenced as the uniforms worn by the 1968 national champion Ohio State squad. This year’s uniform look includes:

  • Scarlet jerseys with large gray numbers on front and back of the jersey and most noticeably on the shoulder pads;
  • Gray pants with wider piping down the sides;
  • Black stripe around the jersey sleeves;
  • Seven Buckeye leaves along the back collar and a Block “O” on the front collar; and
  • Wider scarlet, white and black stripe on a dull chrome helmet.

What do you guys think? These are underwhelming to me considering some of the really slick uniforms we have seen this year.

  1. lol, you will be crying in your reply after teh game when The Ohio State Buckeyes do a beat down on the meatchicken wolverweenies. we want denard to play, he is still hungry from last year and we want to feed him….some horseshoe turf. time to start another ten years of OSU victories over the pee and blue.

    • Gee Dave,

      Just think – if you could only run off 14 straight wins – you could just get to .500 against Michigan. Actually – I think it’s 15 you would need – now that all your 2010 season “wins” were wiped out. Tatoo that where the sun doesn’t shine!!!

  2. I like the helmet. Don’t be so bitter Bluezers. It isn’t our fault your team ran the table before football was even thought of as a relevant sport. Things were great before the days a car was thought of as “magic”. Everyone is expecting a 10 year war re-do, but at the end of the decade you’ll only be left with a coach wielding the moniker of Brady Choke.

  3. Regarding the question posed at the end of the artilce – “What do you guys think? These are underwhelming to me considering some of the really slick uniforms we have seen this year.”

    Perhaps the uni’s aren’t as “flashy” as some displayed by Oregon, Maryland, et al; however, we are tOSU – it’s history that makes the program, not flash of a new uni. That said, I think they are the appropriate mix of what I (and many others) think about as a traditional home uniform with just a touch of something fresh.

    Personally, I think the Oregon and Maryland uniforms, to me the most flashy of all of the retooled uniforms over the past few years, are a distraction and reflect the lack of tradition within their respective programs.

    Restraint is not a term often used in college sports, but in this case, it was the right decision; at least in this alumus’ eyes.

  4. DScap: Thats an interesting point bout traditional schools not needing flashier uniforms and the other school reflecting not having much traditional by needing crazier uniforms. I never thought about it that way.

  5. Being a Wolverine fan I can honestly say that I have always liked the OSU uni’s these included. They look like a football uniform is supposed to look like, not like you’re about to be shot into space. OSU has tradition and history, like Michigan so if it isn’t broke don’t fix it. Whatever Coach Meyer has to do to give them an edge he’ll do, the way this game shakes out he may need it. Anyway GO BLUE!!
