We all knew that if Bodemeister broke out of the gate well and had a fast track today that he would have a great shot at winning today’s Preakness Stakes. However, I’ll Have Another proved himself once again, and is now one step closer to winning a Triple Crown. He will now have the opportunity to go to the Belmont in Elmont, N.Y., on June 9, and try his luck at becoming the first horse to win the Triple Crown since Affirmed in 1978.
There have been eleven horses that have won the first two outings on the way to the promised Triple Crown since Affirmed won in 1978. Big Brown was the last one to win the first two races in 2008. I’ll Have Another trainer Doug O’Neill has repeatedly said that he is highly confident that his colt is good enough to head to the Belmont and break the 33-year drought. Only time will tell if he is right!
