After signing a contract with the sportswear company Under Armour back in December, Northwestern University, Chicago’s self-proclaimed ‘Hometown Team’, has unveiled its new uniforms.
The uniforms will debut September 1st against Syracuse and September 8th in their home opener versus Vanderbilt. The uni’s state-of-the-art construction is coupled with reflections of the university’s gothic architecture and football tradition, according to the NU website. They are present in the jerseys by the fonts used and the famous “Northwestern Stripe.”
Leave it up to NU to incorporate architecture in a football uniform. What building is the ‘WILDCATS’ tramp stamp on the pants modeled after exactly? I do like the visors to the helmets though, and the black and purple combo actually makes for a pretty fierce effect. But the gloves BOTH have the NU ‘N’ on them? Aww, but the puzzle-piece fit makes for such great initial confusion on football players’ faces. Maybe that’s a Nike trademark. Call it a Pac-12 bias, but these uniforms still don’t compare to those Nike masterpieces.
