Michael Phelps has just become the most decorated Olympian of all time. Phelps won silver in the 200 butterfly and finished off the historic night by winning gold in the 4×200 freestyle relay earlier on Tuesday. Before the relay Phelps told his teammates: “You better give me a big lead,” Phelps said with a big grin, “and they gave it to me. So I just wanted to hold on. And I thanked them for being able to allow me to have this moment. It has been a pretty amazing career but we still have a couple of races left.”
Even though he won silver in the 200m butterfly, he was upset with the finish: “Obviously I would have liked to have a better outcome in the 200 fly,” Phelps said. “You know, I was on the receiving end of being touched out. Chad swam a great race. It’s obviously my last one, I would’ve liked to win, but 1:53 flat isn’t a terrible time.”
Phelps may have failed to win the 200m butterfly for the 3rd consecutive games, but he can now say he has something that no one else on the planet does: 19 Olympic medals. Well done.

Well deserved. It’s hard to stay on top of 3 Olympics which equate to 12 years. Not many baseball or football players can do that well for that long.
Agreed Wendy. Incredible accomplishment!
