Here’s a list of point guards that are widely considered the best in the NBA: Derrick Rose, Rajon Rondo, Kyrie Irving, Steve Nash, Deron Williams, Chris Paul, Tony Parker, Russell Westbrook.
Would you trade any of those players for Mario Chalmers? How much better would the Miami Heat be if they traded Chalmers for any of those guys? If you answered yes to the first question you’re either certifiably insane or Mario’s mama.
Peter Emerick: “Rajon Rondo recently said that he’s the NBA’s top point guard. What are your thoughts on that, and where do you think you rank among all the point guards in the NBA?”
Mario Chalmers: “He’s not the best, but he’s in the top five. There are a lot of great point guards in the league, Deron Williams, Chris Paul and Steve Nash. There are a lot of great guards in the NBA so for him to say he’s the best is a pretty bold statement. I’d say that I [Mario Chalmers] am in the front end of the top 10.”
Wow is all I can say to that. It’s one thing to be confident in your abilities but I’m not even sure if most folks would take Mario over the following:
John Wall, Steph Curry (when healthy), Monta Ellis/Brandon Jennings (whoever is running the point that night for the Bucks), Jrue Holiday, Tyreke Evans, Kyle Lowry, Mike Conley, Ty Lawson
Even though he’s the Miami Heat whipping boy, he does what he’s asked and was a factor in Miami’s championship run. What he needs to do though is think about what his career would be like if he was the floor general for a team like Sacramento. I doubt he’d be as brash.
P.S. I’m not sure there’s a better time to post this than right now. Here’s an amazing Tumblr of “People Yelling at Chalmers“
