Hits & Botches: Raw 10/5

As of late everyone has been talking about ratings, I personally never really look too much into them anymore because with streaming, dvr’s, and just about any other way to view TV…ratings have become something of an afterthought to me. Ratings are what the guys who wear suits care about and
Vince McMahon wears a suit and cares about ratings. Last week John Cena opened Raw against The New Day and this week he closes it.

With that in your back pockets this week we get Raw opening up with Brock Lesnar…interesting that the WWE Champion has been pushed out from the opening and closing of Raw….might we see the title come off Rollins soon because of ratings…god I hope not.

WWE needs to focus on Raw like it does NXT. They need to dumb down the product and slowly build it back into something that focuses on wrestling with dashes of “sports entertainment”. No one hates The New Day and they are the perfect combo of great wrestling and “sports entertainment”. But we aren’t here to talk about what NXT does right and the rest of the company does wrong…which is a lot….we are here to talk about the good, the bad, and the ugly or as we here at No Coast Bias like to call it ‘The Hits & Botches’.

Opening Segment: Botch
Last week was the first time in a long time that I didn’t care for a Paul Heyman promo, this week wasn’t really any different.

Lesnar is starting to become a fixture and is no longer becoming the special attraction and it just doesn’t work. I could have done without him on the MSG show and really hope as the weeks go on they start to really sell this Hell in the Cell match, because after SummerSlam I’m not sure I’m going to care about this match.

Roman Reigns, Randy Orton and Dean Ambrose vs. The Wyatt Family: Hit
Commercial breaks be damned this was a great six man tag team match. Braun Strowman needs some work, but thank god Randy Orton’s greatness is there to clean up when things got messy.

Unlike Ziggler & Rusev the longer this feud goes on the more I start to get behind it. It’s going to be a shame when it all ends at Hell in the Cell, but it does kind of need to end so that Reigns can move on to his throne.

Neville vs. Sheamus: Botch
Sheamus is now boring again. This match was boring and didn’t add much to anything, but hey at least Neville is on to his next feud with King Barrett. Hopefully this feud goes better for Barrett.

Kane/Rolling segment: Hit
We get it…you don’t want to see Kane go after the WWE title and Seth Rollins hasn’t be given the greatest challengers for the title…wah wah wah. Kane has been nothing short of great this entire time and hell I wouldn’t be against him getting the title. Rollins has be absolutely a monster this entire title run and yeah the reign would have been a lot better if they gave him more to work with but it was the first of what you can only assume will be plenty of title reigns so why not end this one by giving Kane a parting gift that he deserves.

Natalya vs. Paige: Hit
Hey can we get more of this? Natalya and Paige both work their asses off, give the crowd entertaining matches and work rather well together. I’d like to see Paige’s whole Paige Bomb not go to waste but honestly we all know it will so why not get some quality matches out of it?

Kevin Owens vs. Sin Cara: Hit
Can we go back to having Kevin Owens vs Ceasro matches on Raw? While this wasn’t and absolute waste of time…we got a great Owens/Kalisto moment, it was a weird one to help push Ryback & Owens “feud” to the next level. Kind of like Owen’s match against Jericho at the MSG event you were left wanting more from the match but you were still happy with the product you were given. I’m not sure if this is going to become a Kevin Owens thing or if it’s just the talent he has been given to work with.

Susan G. Komen Segment:
I’m just going to leave this here….

Kane and Seth Rollins vs. The Dudley Boyz: Hit
Two things I’ve been surprisingly a fan of…The Return of the Dudley Boyz….or Boys or just Dudleys I’m not really sure what they are but man are they actually using these guys right. I was worried that we were going to get a reminder of the New Age Outlaws return from a while back, but nope these guys are really in it for the long run. While I’m not positive if they will be used on a weekly basis for months on end, I am happy with a feud from time to time to help prop up an often lackluster tag team division.

Second thing I’ve been fully behind…the return of Masked Demon and whatever other adjectives they use to describe Kane now. I was worried that this would be just another blah return to the mask, but instead this had been delightfully entertaining. The split personality take is something we’ve all seen done before, but Kane is really taking the ball and running with it.

Add these two together and we got ourselves a rather entertaining “filler” match. It helped the Dudleys stay on TV and gave Kane v Rollins another awesome moment. I’m also pretty happy that they seem to have already announced that this feud will live and die at Hell in a Cell, which is great since every other feud has been drawn out and beaten to death. Yeah we are looking at you Rusev v Ziggler.

Team BAD vs. Team Bella: Hit
I was expecting this to end up being a complete disaster…but I was surprised at how limited they had the liabilities perform in this match, but not as surprised as I am that Sasha Banks is still with Team Bad. Easily the only one in this Divas Revolution that has made the most of her what seems to be limited time on-screen.

The whole pre-match banter was also entertaining as Nikki came across having no clue what was going on in the world while Team B.A.D dropped several pop culture references.

Rusev Summer Rae Segment: Botch
I wanted to call this a hit because I was laughing so hard during the entire segment, but I’m pretty sure it was meant to be something serious. The only outcome from all of this that will make it worth wild is if Summer finds the European Title lying around backstage in a prop box and gives it to Rusev. Other than that I’m ready for Summer to finally find someone or something that she fits with, because this isn’t it.

WWE United States Title Match: Big E vs. John Cena: Hit
I’ll admit I talked myself into this being Carlito for the entire commercial break leading up to this. I’m not sure why I started to buy into this theory but I was ready to hear “I spit in the face of people who don’t want to be cool”. I’m actually listening to the theme now why I write this because I was that ready to hear it.

So you can understand how let down I was when Dolph Ziggler’s music hit…we’ve been there and to be honest the Rusev feud has left me sour on Ziggler….but the power of positivity saved my night as the New Day dragged Ziggler’s limp body down to the ramp. You would think after the whole Total Divas storyline Cena would be pleased with the New Day, but not so much.

I’ve been a big fan of the super indy US Open Challenge, but this Big Hoss version was just as good and honestly who is more entertaining than all three members of the New Day right now?

When Ziggler finally came down to make the save followed by the Dudleys I felt like I was at the nearby high school gymnasium watching the local indy fed head into intermission, but for some reason I was actually all for it…I’ll chalk it up to the power of positivity.
