Coming off their worst loss of the season in Week 10 to the San Francisco 49ers the Chicago Bears needed a win badly. They got it today as quarterback Jay Cutler returned from a concussion to lead the now leaders of the NFC North to an 8-3 record trampling the Minnesota Vikings.
Not only did this one man make all the difference for the Chicago Bears (playing at home against a familiar opponent I’m sure helped too), he may have just changed our opinion on him entirely.
I don’t know if any of you caught this but SB Nation has posted a segment showing Cutler tying his left tackle J’Marcus Webb’s shoe in the huddle after the lineman lost it during the play.
Have we all just been oblivious to this warm and fuzzy Cutler these past few years? Or is it fatherhood that has led him to show off his humanitarian side? What’s next? Jay dressing up as Santa at the company Christmas party? Insert joke about various people in Cutler’s lap here. My favorite visual would probably be Mrs. McCaskey herself.
Before we get too carried away it’s important to note that Webb is the sole protector of Cutty’s blind side. So if you still don’t want to admit that Jay may not be the pompous a-hole everyone thinks he is you can just blame it on him wanting to make sure his lineman doesn’t trip over his own feet while blocking.
However, I choose to believe the tin man does have a heart. Looks like this Chicago Bear is nothing but a Teddy Bear after all.
