This post is part of our NBA week series, where we explore all things NBA leading up to opening night on October 31st.
As we closer to the start of the NBA season, I thought it might be fun to look at great players who wore the same number as the number of days left until tip-off. We are 6 days out so we are going to look at highlights of greats who wore number 6 in no particular order. Enjoy the highlights!
Bill Russell, Career averages: 15.1 ppg, 22.5 rpg, 4.3 apg *Blocks were not counted then*
Julius Erving, Career averages: 24.2ppg, 8.5rpg, 4.2 apg
LeBron James, Career averages: 27.6ppg, 7.2rpg, 6.9apg
Patrick Ewing, Career averages: 21.0ppg, 9.8rpg, 1.9apg *Ewing wore #6 during the 01-02 season for Orlando*

I like how LeBron was changing his number from 23 to 6 in honor of Michael Jordan, feeling that it should be retired league-wide. But of course, Bill Russell wore #6, and he SHOULD have his number retired league-wide. When I first heard of this, I (fairly quickly) realized he was heading to Miami; the only other team that has retired Jordan’s 23.
