Chris Webber’s ‘Gangsta, Gangsta’ Rap Video Was Lit

NCB presents ‘Gangster Week’ – As fantasies go, few are as fascinating to people as the idea of being a gangster. For decades, countless books, comics, movies and TV shows have given people many a villain to become enamored with. But what most people don’t know is that anyone can be a gangster.

From genre standards like The Godfather, Goodfellas and The Sopranos to cult classics such as Reservoir Dogs, we’ve seen the role of “gangster” portrayed in so many different ways. We’ve seen the traditional mafia and crime gangs, as well as comic book villains and unorthodox/unexpected characters, nail the role.

So, what do we at No Coast Bias think about gangsters? Join us as we take a look at some of the industry classics and put together the ultimate fantasy gangster teams. Deep down inside, everyone wants to be a gangster.

I don’t know what it says about me that the first thing that popped in my mind when the NCB crew was thinking up Gangster Week topics was dissecting Chris Webber and Kurupt’s “Gangsta, Gangsta” music video. Actually, I know exactly what it says about me: I’m a man of great taste.

Hear me out.

Before injuries depleted Webber’s athletic ability, he was on track to be one of the best to ever do it at the power forward position. That’s debatable.

After he produced “Gangsta, Gangsta,” he cemented himself as the best rapper/NBA player of all-time. Seriously. That’s not debatable.

The man was determined to have a dope legacy no matter what. What’s more gangster than that?

Let’s walk through all the awesome things the C-Webb and Kurupt collabo brought us back in ’99.

00:02 – You can’t tell me Webber is rocking a suit here. He’s making a prison outfit look fly.

00:08 – Think they’re doing the dice thing too much? Nah, just right.

00:14 – This dude (chick?) is repping good ole Stevey Yzerman in a rap video. Can rappers make oversized throwbacks a thing again, please.

00:19 – Ghostface!

00:28 – Remember that pool table scene from Seinfeld? Shouts to these guys for repurposing that set for this video.

00:37 – Redman! Sweater vests! I dare you to find a classier screenshot than this.

00:58 – This was basically every late 90s/early 00s party in one picture. I can smell the Zima and Skittles.

01:08 – Fake turntablin’ is such power move at a party.

01:12 – Aha! Proof non-white people raise the roof.

01:29 – This move. THIS is the move.

01:36 – It’s the dice thing again!

01:41 – How to Pick Up Ladies 101

01:45 – Aight. Who spilled Henny on the pool table?

01:52 – I don’t know about you, but the floral arrangements in this video are top-notch.

02:03 – The key to raising the roof? Confidence and persistence.

02:17 – This is obviously the most efficient way to consume champagne.

02:21 – Sway’s cameo and fancy footwork makes the entire video. That’s Sway, right? Yeah, that’s gotta be Sway.

02:40 – Coogi sweaters will never not be cool.

03:00 – Forever my mood.
