The Associated Press is reporting that Chicago Bears fan William Christopher Pettry from Lake Villa, IL was killed over the weekend at Fionn MacCool’s, an Irish-themed restaurant at The Jacksonville Landing. Pettry’s cousin, Quincy Asbury Jr., told The Chicago Tribune that Pettry flew to Florida on Friday to go to the Bears-Jaguars game. A news release issued today by the sheriff’s office says witnesses told detectives that Twenty-seven-year-old Matthew Hinson cut Pettry’s throat, put the bloody knife in his pocket and calmly walked out of the restaurant. Jacksonville.com is reporting that Pettry was seen talking to Matthew Hinson’s wife before having his throat slashed.

According to Jon Greenberg of ESPN.com, Mr. Pettry’s wife posted this on Facebook yesterday afternoon:

“Today my husband William Christopher Pettry (Most of you only know him by Chris) was taken from his family way to early. Some idiot has taken his life. Im so mad, just don’t understand why, very lost right now. Please hug the ones you love because you never know if tomorrow you will have that chance.”

This is just a sad situation. If there are more details to follow, we will keep you updated.
