COLLEGE FOOTBALL WEEKLY PICKS, Week 9

NORTH CAROLINA (-3) at #23 PITT

I’m a little surprised UNC is favored in this one, given that they’ve played a pretty light schedule so far (yeah I know they boatraced the same Illinois team that beat Nebraska, shut it) and that Pitt keeps winning close games. New head coach Pat Narduzzi has got the Panthers’ running game and defense dialed in. They win a squeaker. Pitt 24, UNC 21 (more like pitt narduzzi lol)

USC (-6) at CAL

USC is now in its second season of firing its head coach and instantly becoming better. Ed Orgeron and his Trojans toppled a top ten Stanford and current interim man Clay Helton toppled a #3 Utah team last Saturday. I feel like a broken record having said the same thing about USC every week: coaching issues aside, they’ve got the raw talent to beat anyone on their schedule. USC 38, Cal 27

#3 CLEMSON (-10.5) at NC STATE

This is one of those games which looks like it should be a good game because of the records . . . but it’s not. The Wolfpack are bad. Clemson 42, NC State 17

GEORGIA (-2.5) vs. #11 FLORIDA (Jacksonville, FL)

Both teams are coming off bye weeks, which means hopefully both teams will be rested. But without Nick Chubb, I’m concerned about Georgia’s ability to move the ball. Florida 20, Georgia 16

VANDERBILT (+13) at #18 HOUSTON

Houston and quarterback Greg Ward (and the whole AAC, actually) have been one of this season’s better surprises, and this will be a fun matchup between an offense that can move the ball almost at will and a stingy Commodore defense. I like the Cougs to win but I’m leery about that two-touchdown spread. Houston 17, Vanderbilt 13

#9 NOTRE DAME (-10.5) at #21 TEMPLE

Yet another cool AAC story: the Temple Owls have made it this far by playing great defense and winning ugly. All eyes will be on Philadelphia as a nation hopes the Owls can knock off the Irish, but I don’t see them containing the likes of C.J. Prosise long enough to win. Notre Dame 24, Temple 10 (To read NCB’s preview of this game, click here.)

#8 STANFORD (-12) at WASHINGTON STATE

Another game which looks like it should be good because of the records, but probably isn’t. Wazzu gets its yards but a better question might be whether the the Cougs stop Christian McCaffrey from racking up 300+ yards. Stanford 42, Washington State 28

LAST WEEK, STRAIGHT UP: 4-3 (43-18 SEASON)
LAST WEEK, ATS: 3-4 (19-22 SEASON)
